Research

Our goal is to understand intelligence and interactions fundamentally through design, construction, application, and evaluation of intelligent systems which increase our social intelligence by mediating human-to-human interactions.

In order to achieve the goal, our research explores a wide variety of topics including:
Developing intelligent systems for supporting the process of personal activities or group collaboration by collecting, organizing, and sharing records of human-human interactions in daily life.
Understanding conversation, the most natural way of human-to-human communication, and developing communication media and artifacts with the benefits of conversation.
Developing communication media that brings us emergence of creative interactions, and establishing methods of evaluating its effectiveness.
Studying empirically principles and design methods of developing atrifacts capable of living in harmony with humans and providing human with various services through constructing trial prototypes such as a cleaning robot.
Understanding interactions among humans, artifacts, and environments, and formulating the framework of evaluating the effectiveness of intelligent systems through collecting and analyzing data.
